At the exhibition “Meat and Dairy Products” held in Singapore, 11 producers of meat and milk from the UK presented their own products united by a common slogan.
The goal of the English exposition was to demonstrate the high quality and excellent taste of its products to representatives of restaurants and catering establishments in Singapore. The British exposition, organized by the Council for the Development of Agriculture and Gardening (AHDB) and the Department of International Trade (DIT), attracted a large number of influential people in the food service industry.
Singapore today is the UK’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia, with two-thirds of British exports to the region coming to Singapore. According to Susan Stewart, AHDB senior export manager, “Singapore is a key target market for our exports, as it is the gateway to Asian market. It also has a large number of expatriates with a high income from recycling, and we know from our study that people in Singapore eat out at least once a week, so targeting the food service sector may be useful for our export growth. ".Over 30,000 British citizens and some 700 British companies also live in Singapore. Last year, the United Kingdom exported 2,700 tons of dairy products to Singapore, 55% more than in 2017, worth £ 7.8 million. This growth was particularly driven by an increase in the export of skimmed milk powder and cheese. And in 2018, exports of red meat amounted to 2.7 million pounds.
