This week was marked for the UK agriculture by the traditional start of harvesting on plantations with currant bushes.
Analysts of the country's agro-industrial complex predict that this season the British farmers will be able to collect at least ten thousand tons of currants.
The fact is that the shortage of cool days makes the bush not as productive as possible. Therefore, the coming global warming scares British farmers. But it inspires local breeders who are actively developing new varieties of culture - more resistant to warm winters.
Not only leading breeders, but also investors who are willing to invest considerable amounts in creating new sustainable varieties are on guard for the safety and conservation of blackcurrant.
It is noteworthy that black currant is one of the favorite berries of the British. Therefore, a special fund was created to protect this berry, whose employees are currently working on new varieties. By the efforts of initiative researchers, such a variety of berries as “Ben Lorez” was created, which tolerates warm winters more steadily, gives a good harvest and begins to bear fruit this summer.
Scientists note that the creation of new varieties of currants requires at least thirteen years of painstaking work. However, such a low speed does not scare developers and investors - they are sure that their efforts and costs in any case will be rewarded handsomely.
