Developers from the College of Breeding at the Agricultural University of Georgia (USA) made an amazing discovery: it turns out that tomatoes and potatoes have a unique genetic mechanism that allows you to control and modify the shapes of fruits and vegetables.
Scientists have published the results of their achievements on the pages of the authoritative publication Nature Communications. In particular, the article discusses the fact that a newly discovered genetic feature provides some cultures with an elongated shape. Oblong vegetables and fruits owe their parameters to this unique mechanism.

“This genetic feature is especially common in nightshade cultures,” say researchers from Georgia. “And understanding this mechanism will allow us to believe that in the near future we will be able to create new forms and types of fruits and vegetables.”
