Outraged by claims that they are responsible for increasing atmospheric nitrogen emissions and environmental pollution, Dutch farmers held one of the largest protests in the country on October 1.
Thousands of farmers, many of whom arrived by tractor, came from all over the Netherlands to take part in a protest rally on the field in The Hague. Police said that 2,200 farmers took part in this action.
The frustrated farmers had already caused road chaos in the morning, creating a 1,136 km long convoy, which caused many people to be late for work. To get to the place of protest, many tractors also destroyed the fences, as a result of which three people were arrested.
Farmers are outraged by the report on climate change, which calls for closing down inefficient cattle farms due to air pollution with nitrogen.
“We are called the culprits, although no one mentions the air transport industry,” said one of the angry farmers.
According to world media reports, The Hague Mayor Pauline Crickke warned of an “unstable situation,” but there were no serious problems. Dozens of tractors also parked on Scheveningen Beach, and their owners took part in the protest.
