During 2018, the export of Ukrainian honey decreased by 1⁄4 due to the mass death of bees due to chemical poisoning. This was during the round table "Interdepartmental meeting on the integration of environmental and agricultural issues in the implementation of the Association Agreement" said the director of the Information Center "Green Dossier" Tamara Malkova.
In 2018, Ukraine stepped out of the top three leaders in world honey exports. Over the year, honey exports were reduced by more than 1/4 and the cause of this was the poisoning of bees. This year, bee poisoning continues to be recorded, which deprives Ukraine of the opportunity to reach the first lines of the rating in exports, Malkova said.
Currently, Ukraine’s climate is changing from the greenhouse gas emissions that agriculture produces, and it should be rebuilt due to climate change and the shift of climatic zones, adds Tamara Malkova.
Currently, 43% of Ukrainian soils are depleted due to the loss of humus and nutrients due to improper agricultural activities. An increase in air temperature of 1 ° C moves the boundaries of agroclimatic zones by about 100 km. Recently, the increase in temperature indicators amounted to 2 ° C.
Agriculture and agro-industrial production account for 24% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture is also the largest consumer of water in the world.
According to Tamara Malkova, to correct the current situation in Ukraine, the Ministry of Ecology and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy should unite to solve the climate problem. Ministries should develop a new strategy for the development of the agricultural sector, taking into account the state of the environment and international obligations, as well as approve the communication strategy of the government.
