The first project can supply gas to 1,300 homes in Chatham Kent.
The provincial government selected Chatham Kent and Bruce County as the first regions to gain increased access to natural gas. Enhancing access to natural gas is part of the relevant state gasification program.
In Chatham Kent, construction could begin this summer and will include two new transmission pipelines. After the construction is completed, up to 1300 houses and 200 enterprises will be able to receive “blue fuel.” The government says that switching to natural gas can save private customers between $ 800 and $ 2,500 a year. The region’s agro-industrial complex supports the transition to natural gas infrastructure.Greg Devris, president and CEO of Truly Green Farms and Cedarline Greenhouses, said that for every acre of greenhouses built, at least two direct and two indirect jobs are being created. This natural gas project is a great example of how infrastructure drives the economy. In Bruce County, the gasification project involves connecting about 12,000 homes, farms and businesses to the gas pipeline.
