Today, the Stavropol Territory is rightfully considered the leader in the cultivation and production of tomatoes throughout Russia - local farmers produce more than 16% of tomatoes from the total number of this crop grown throughout the country.
Today greenhouses with tomatoes occupy about 190 hectares of the Stavropol Territory. According to representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the share of tomatoes in total production is about 75 percent. The remaining quarter is occupied by cucumbers and various varieties of salad crops.

The governor also emphasizes that greenhouse growing of vegetables is the industry that needs to be developed primarily as potentially profitable. That is why a lot of money is allocated to equip growing systems in closed ground. In addition, in the field of greenhouse cultivation in the Stavropol Territory, innovative experiments are carried out with crops, lighting and heating.
In the year, the greenhouses of the Stavropol Territory give farmers a yield of about 74 thousand tons, the share of tomatoes in which is just over 52 thousand tons.
