Compared to 2018, this year the harvest of vegetables will be larger, as farmers have already increased the cultivated area for vegetable crops, an expert on agricultural issues Ivan Tomich said.
It is not yet possible to predict what the harvest of vegetables will be this year. We can talk about an increase in the volume of vegetable products only on the basis that all its producers in Ukraine decided to increase the sown area and completed this. Such data allow us to hope that the production of vegetables in 2019 will be slightly higher than last year. But these are still very preliminary and cautious forecasts, Ivan Tomich assures.
Recall that on October 1, 2018, Ukrainian farmers harvested 7.42 million tons of open field vegetables on an area of 379.6 thousand hectares. This is 3.4% more than for the same period in 2017, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported. The most generous crop of vegetables was collected by farmers of the Kherson, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk regions. A small crop of vegetables was obtained in the Lugansk, Ternopol, Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
When analyzing the data, the temporarily occupied territories of the Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and parts of the temporarily occupied territories of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions were not taken into account.
