According to the results of 2018, its average sugar content amounted to 16.5%, said Ruslana Butylo, deputy chairman of the Ukrsahar association.
Last year, only two of the country's sugar plants processed beets with a sugar content of more than 18%. Seven plants worked with beets 17-18% sugar content, 16-17% - 20, 15-16% - 11 enterprises.
Recall that in the current marketing year 2019/20. 34-35 sugar factories will operate in Ukraine. For comparison, in 2018/19. 42 sweet manufacturing enterprises were operating in the country. For information, sugar content of beets is the sugar content in its root crops, expressed as a percentage. It is expressed both in relation to the wet mass, and to dry substances.
The sugar content of beets can fluctuate in the range of 15-19%, and in some cases even higher. Sugar content depends on the organizational, natural, and agro-technical conditions of cultivation.
Interestingly, according to 2015 data, sugar made from sugar beets makes up only 12% globally. 88% of the planet’s sugar is made from sugarcane.
