Last week in the Republic of Khakassia there was a massive death among horse stock. As a result of exposure to an unidentified virus, about 40 individuals died.
Examining tissue samples of dead horses, veterinary laboratory staff came to the conclusion that the cause of the mass death of animals was inflammation, which provoked malignant edema. As a result of inflammation in the body of horses, tissue necrosis developed that was affected by inflammation.
According to employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Khakassia, inflammatory and fatal processes in the organisms of horse stock caused conditionally pathogenic bacteria, which belong to the class of clostridia. It is known that such a type of clostridia as Clostridium chauvoei, entering the body of livestock, causes the development of emphysematous carbuncle in animals.
According to Yevgeny Baulin, who heads the department of animal diseases and is an expert in organizing anti-epizootic procedures, clostridia penetrated the Khakass horses through injuries in the skin and mucous membranes. The appearance of these injuries was the result of treating animals with a special disinfectant.
