Currently in Ukraine there is a reduction in areas under raspberries and a decrease in its purchase price, due to excess supply over demand, analysts at Pro-Consulting inform.
According to the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPOA), this year raspberry production in Ukraine may decrease, as well as its cultivation area. The reason for this state of affairs lies in the loss-making of berry production over the past year.
During 2016-2018 more and more land was allocated for raspberry cultivation. So, in 2016, this culture occupied 4.6 thousand ha, in 2017 - 4.87 thousand ha, in 2018 - 5.14 thousand ha.
Wholesale prices of raspberries in Ukrainian markets over the previous 3 years have been unstable. Their peak occurred in 2016, when they reached 38 UAH / kg, and in 2018 the average price of raspberries was 25 UAH / kg.
Ukrainian analysts advise not to abandon the cultivation of raspberries, since now export of frozen raspberries and berries is actively developing, its market capacity can reach 9.5 thousand tons in physical terms by 2020.
Earlier it was reported that this year, raspberry producers intend to optimize existing berries because of unprofitability and lack of labor. Unprofitable projects will be closed, and the remaining ones will be transferred to other technologies in order to increase profits.
