Resentful residents will gather in the city center for a protest, demanding to cancel the closure of the school farm.
On Saturday, May 11, Save Stratton School Farm campaigners will gather in the Biggleswade market to urge high school trustees to delay closing their favorite school farm and join them in exploring all options for saving it.
The farm’s closure was announced after Stratton Education’s Board of Trustees announced that it would need £ 500,000 to save the school, and you could save money on closing the farm.Ben Knight, spokeswoman and former student at Stratton School, said: “The farm is an invaluable resource with a proud past and equally proud future. Thousands of students have passed through the farm since 1955, gaining valuable practical skills, and many of them continue to work in the rapidly growing agricultural sector. ”
Most recently, in October last year, the school assured residents that there was no threat to the farm, and denied the community an attempt to raise funds. The group listed a set of five key requirements, including an independent, transparent farm assessment and public meeting.Activists say the farm has covered its running costs for many years and recently even built two new buildings.
