Farms of the Lviv region have already sown 310 thousand hectares of spring crops.
In particular, in the fields of the region were sown: 45.3 thousand hectares of corn, which makes up 88% of the plan, 21.4 thousand sunflower seeds, which also makes 88% of the plan and 26 thousand hectares of soybeans or 48% of the plan. This year, 68.5 thousand hectares or 106% of the projected areas were sown with early crops.
Sugar beet was planted with 11.2 thousand hectares (98% of the plan), the Ministry of Agrarian Policy said in a statement. A characteristic feature of the spring field work of this year is the coincidence in time of the agrometeorological conditions of sowing. For this reason, sowing of early and late crops was carried out in parallel. Rains in early May served as a deterrent in the promotion of equipment in the fields.
But at the same time, heavy rains will contribute to the emergence of friendly seedlings and high yields, assured the Department of Agricultural Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration. It was previously reported that as of May 2, 2019, Ukrainian farmers have already completed the sowing of spring grain and leguminous crops. The total area of sown land is 2.1 million hectares. At the same time, farmers continue to sow corn for grain, millet and buckwheat.
