The delay in the harvest season of domestic sweet cherry played in favor of Ukrainian importers. Today, more and more cherries grown in Spain appear on the shelves of the country's outlets.
The operators of the largest in Western Ukraine wholesale market of Shuvar ORSPO in Lviv are gradually adding imported cherries to the assortment of fresh berries, given the increasing demand for it.
Vendors note a rapid increase in demand for cherries, even despite relatively high prices. Now the berry is offered at a price of 230-250 UAH / kg (€ 7.84-8.53 / kg).The Ukrainian consumer is used to the fact that in the second half of May there are already sweet cherries on the market. So, last spring Transcarpathian farmers put locally grown cherries on the market in the first half of May.
This season, the weather delays the ripening of berries, so market operators have begun to work with imports, says Ivan Fedishin, head of the Vegetables and Fruits department at ORS “Shuvar”.According to Fedishin, the Shuvara operators work only with recognized suppliers from Europe who grow berries according to the EU standard. Ukrainians can be sure that Spanish cherries, in addition to their attractive appearance and rich taste, are also absolutely safe for health.
