Breeders of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the support of representatives of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Heilongjiang Province (Harbin, China), have begun developing new varieties of potatoes and perennial beans that will annually delight farmers with a generous and high-quality harvest.
“We intend to create such varieties that will be comfortable growing in a sharply continental climate,” said Nikita Zezin, head of the Agricultural Research Institute of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to preliminary forecasts, the process of breeding new varieties will take about five years. As a result, scientists intend to get fruitful frost-resistant alfalfa and excellent potatoes, which have a strong immunity to various diseases.
At the moment, the stage of breeding new varieties is at the stage of environmental testing: researchers select the most suitable and practical crops that have established themselves well in China and the Urals.
