The producer, procurer and processor of honey share among themselves 11 UAH of profit.
Such an assessment was made during a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry by Viktor Ivanchenko, development director of the Askania-Pak honey exporting company.
According to his calculations, the cost of honey production in the beekeeper of Ukraine is at about 25 UAH. The cost of the procurer is 2.5 UAH, and the cost of processing honey is 14.5 UAH. Thus, the total cost of honey at all stages of processing is 42 UAH. “If today the export price averages € 1.73 (53 UAH), then it turns out that all the links today share 11 UAH of profit,” the expert summed up.Recall that about 60% of honey in Ukraine is produced in amateur apiaries, where the number of bee colonies does not exceed 50. Professional producers who serve more than 200 bee colonies account for up to 5% of all honey. 25% are provided by middle beekeepers.
Given this structure, in the medium term, Ukraine has so quickly increased its export volume that it risks losing it just as quickly. Moreover, the average age category of the beekeeper, especially the small one, is a senior citizen. Sooner or later, these people will face the question of whether there is strength to continue.
