The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) agreed to provide a loan in the amount of 4 million US dollars for the Georgian poultry farm Chirina for the construction of 14 broiler farms, which will increase the production capacity of the enterprise by 50%.
Katharina Bjorlin Hansen, EBRD Regional Director for the Caucasus, said: “The EBRD is pleased to support the Chirina expansion. This project will have a strong demonstration effect in terms of the development of the value chain in the agribusiness sector in Georgia, while at the same time it will strengthen import substitution, increase food safety standards, as well as cross-border trade.
This is exactly the type of project in the private sector that the EBRD is proud to support and which would like to work with many local producers through various financing instruments. ”
In addition, the expansion project will receive an incentive grant of € 99,000 ($ 112,755) through the EBRD's Climate Change and Technology Transfer Center (FINTECC), which will be used to install advanced energy management systems in new farms.
The FINTECC program has been designed to transfer technology for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Located in eastern Georgia, the Chirina poultry farm includes a hatchery, a breeding farm, a water processing and purification plant, and agricultural land that produces corn and wheat, dryers and grain silos to ensure product quality and safety.
